This course studies the practice of land use law in Oregon. There are two segments to the course. First, we look at history of, and current events and trends in urban and rural planning at the state, regional, and local levels. Second, we look at the administrative law of handling land use matters before local governments and preparing. Transportation, Land Use, and Environmental Planning examines the practices and policies linking transportation, land use and environmental planning needed to achieve a healthy environment, thriving economy, and more equitable and inclusive society. It assesses best practices for improving the performance of city and regional transportation. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development provides advice and information to land-use planners to help them consider the needs of agriculture and food sectors in their decisions. We participate in technical working groups which review and update state and regional plans and policies which affect Western Australia's agriculture and food industries. Structural relations between state, regional, and local government planning and regulation are analyzed. Legal aspects of the implementation of the various functional statewide planning goals are studied, as are the Oregon Land Use Board of Appeals and recent developments in local government land use planning and regulatory processes.
